Before & After: A basement upgrade, a kitchen renovation, and a powder room refresh

Victoria Square, Before:

We were working with a basement that already existed, and we were hired on to reconfigure it.

The clients started the process with a full de-clutter and purge and BCI came in to reconfigure the space plan giving them different zones: a kids area with work stations and a play zone, a peloton gym (!!), a decked out office for the dad and his toys, a super functional and tucked away laundry room for the mom, a movie lounge zone for the whole family, and more needed storage space and cabinetry.

This family has two young sons, so we created a blank slate in a solid and timeless setup that can grow as the boys do — a shared work / computer zone with a long desk that spans several feet, which can be used for homework, gaming, or art projects in the future. We added tall cabinetry all along the back wall to make smart storage for regularly used items that can be tucked away after use. Check out the above for some pre-storage scenes.

It was a fun puzzle, trying to find spatial solutions for a shared multi-use space to suit the evolving needs of each family member.

And the laundry room:

Every laundry room needs a spot to hang clothes, more storage (always!), a space for shoe back stock, oh and that barn door! We love how pretty and functional a barn door can to do a space (a great space saver as well). AND there’s even MORE storage space behind the sliding door - awesome right?

We love how the Cornell Meadows kitchen remodel turned out! Their previous layout, a U shaped setup, felt too crowded and couldn’t comfortably accommodate multiple cooks in the kitchen. We switched things up a bit, taking the stove and fridge to the front wall, shifted the kitchen sink to the more functional and expanded island and added more storage and even a beverage and coffee bar to an under utilized wall. This new layout created a much better flow. The clients were happy to be able to prepare Christmas dinner having multiple people prep comfortably in their newly renovated kitchen. Many hands make light work as they say :)

Darker toned cabinetry can make a space feel closed off and tighter than it needs to be, so we made core upgrades that will stand the test of time — refreshed tiling, cabinets, appliances and hardware… The space now feels light and airy, which definitely feels like a major change in vibe, function and the general aesthetic at Cornell Meadows.

The powder room was a simple refresh but the dramatic change brought a whole new look and feel.

So elegant!
